• Adventure Journey Holidays - Lunar Holidays on Earth!

Iceland has always fascinated me. The recent eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull Volcano only reinforced my fascination. Whenever I journey between San Francisco and Europe, and following much time of flying, suddenly the shimmering dots of mild from Reykjavik seem as though out of nowhere, in the center of the all-encompassing darkness. Iceland will be here to remind moonland  us that Nature however takes cost - the new volcanic eruption truly proves this to be correct!

A nation of amazing organic splendor and surprises - there is nothing rather like it anywhere - Iceland's marked, beautiful landscape is shaped by otherworldly areas - a tapestry of vibrant flower-filled valleys contrasted by desolate lunar deserts pitted with volcanic miracles; its spectacular lava fields and huge icecaps, its hot rises and geysers, their great number of clear blue fjords have all etched a unusual placing maybe not seen elsewhere on earth. Over 200 volcanoes and numerous glaciers variety the country's background, with nearly 80% of the land being lava deserts, glaciers or lakes.

That said, Iceland is definitely an adventurer's paradise - whale watching, mountain climbing, horse riding, bright water rafting and kayaking, glacier hiking, cycling, bird-watching and swimming in geothermal hot pools are only some of the activities on offer. Due to its violent volcanic heritage the country is gorgeous and exciting from every angle. Cliffs, waterfalls, geysers, mountains, glaciers, fjords, warm water rises, lava beds, rapids, extensive character preserves and areas - it's all there!

Reykjavik (meaning "smoky bay" following the water which rises every where from the many hot springs) is the gateway to the united states and the only real "big" city. The clear air, the bluest sky and the multi-colored structures are so vivid which they remind me of an impressionist painting. For a town their size (150,000 inhabitants), it's surprisingly productive, with a booming social and cultural living, including museums, exhibits and festivals through the entire year.

The south of Iceland presents some of the finest views in the country. The Good Geysir, and all of the world's spouting warm rises are named is located here. The Geysir began erupting in early 14th century and ended at the beginning of the 20th Century. Today Strokkur, their little brother, spouts to over 100 ft. every several minutes. Walking around this normal question, one actually feelings the depth of the allows of nature.

Icelandic waterfalls are legion. Wherever one turns, this indicates one is more lovely than the next. Suffused with lovely warm lights, the absolute most extraordinary of those may be the Gullfoss (Golden Waterfall). Here the Hvita Stream tumbles with incredible power in double cascades in to a serious gorge. When sunlight shines, the waterfall's enormous spray types decorative rainbows in the evening light. Here are also two of Iceland's most effective volcanoes- Mt. Hekla and Mt. Katta, and towards the east, it's possible to view big colonies of puffins down the coast.

In the mountainous and uninhabited inside you can find barren deserts just as wonderful as the key Sahara. And the North Coast has some of the very most diverse landscape in Iceland. The superb Vatnajokull, Europe's biggest glacier, is a plain comparison to the lunar ground of the region, wherever Neil Armstrong and his peers trained just before landing on the moon. Boiling dirt pools, lava parks with normally formed statues and steaming craters like the Viti Crater, which erupted in 1984 and is steaming to this day, are located here. On the other hand, wonderful Sea Myvatn is really a birdwatchers heaven, with its multitude of fowls and chickens roaming this area.

The North Coast can be house to Iceland's greatest fjord, wherever on can enjoy boating on the list of blue-veined lagoons. Whale seeing adventures are portion and parcel of the region as well. All through summer solstice, these upper latitudes provide the extraordinary spectacle of the Midnight Sunlight, which sinks down to the touch the skyline before climbing again in amazing sounds of red and gold. On the list of variety of thermal hot rises, the Orange Lagoon, known for its healing houses, is the best pleasure to the end of an adventure-packed time - to take up the thermal waters, to relax and re-energize.

That young-at-heart however ancient land, with its geologically diverse, volcanically productive limits, offers up probably one of the most interesting of earth family journey adventures. Number words match the photographs - the absolutely incredible brilliant shades it gifts look taken straight out of a great storybook illustration.
